The famous German organist Bjorn O'Wiede from the partner city of Potsdam will visit Ivano-Frankivsk.
On September 3, as part of the artist's stay in Ivano-Frankivsk, a concert of organ music will take place in the Church of Christ the King. Bjorn O'Wiede's organ improvisations will take you to the mysterious world of organ sounds, where the loud basses of baroque chorales rage, the rapid passages of preludes and toccatas combine in a whirlwind of a new view of the recognized musician. The artist comes to Lviv to express his solidarity with Ukrainians through high art.
Björn O'Wiede (b. 1962) was a singer in the famous Dresdner Kreuzchor boys' choir, and studied in Dresden, Hamburg, and Munich. He was educated in cello, harpsichord, piano, and conducting.
He began his professional career at the Ulm Minster, where he was able to interpret organ music on four instruments and perform contemporary oratorios. Another side of his personality is his work as a freelancer for the Südwest-Presse, for which he wrote concert and movie reviews.
In 1994, Wiede moved to Potsdam, where he worked at the Karl Friedrich Schinkel Cathedral.
The artist played a key role in the construction of the city's main organ, became an organizer and director of music festivals, and directed the Potsdam Nikolaikorchester and the European Symphony Orchestra. He was appointed director of church music at the Evangelical Church of Upper Lausitz.
Björn O'Wiede is an active concert organist and pianist throughout Germany and many European countries, and has been a guest in Venezuela and the United States. O'Wiede is also active as a composer. In addition to choral motets and improvisations, his most famous composition, the oratorio Potsdam Requiem for solo voices, oratorio, choir, orchestra, percussion, and organ, was composed in 2013-2019.
The program includes organ improvisations by Björn O'Wiede: Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788). Sonate in A-moll Wq 74/4 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750).
