Strășeni district is a district in central Moldova with a population of over 80,000. The town of Straseni is located 23 km from Chisinau, in the north-western direction, on the banks of the river Bak, in the forest region of Moldova. The total area of Straseni is 60.82 km2, of which about 1156 ha are agricultural lands. The relief consists of hills, slopes, valleys and plains.
The town with this name was recorded as a village in 1545, when Alexander Voivode, ruler of Moldavia, gave the Pobrat monastery half of the estate that the monks had as a gift from Fratsiman and the village of Kurlucheni. Large and beautiful village, in 1870 there were 596 households, 1840 men and 1110 women. Housewives kept estates, vineyards and beautiful gardens, they were famous carpenters. On July 1, 1877, the village had a library, and in 1910 - 2 schools and a church. The area, starting from the second half of the XX century, developed intensively, becoming an important industrial center in the republic.
The main sectors of the economy are agriculture and manufacturing in the area. Soil and climatic conditions promote the growth of cereals, sunflowers, grapes, vegetables, fruits and other crops. Of the mineral resources in the area, there are stone, gravel, pebbles and sand construction in the Mikauta quarry. Communication services are provided in Straseni by two companies: Moldtelecom and the Post of Moldova.
There are 15 grape processing plants and a poultry farm in Bukovats on the territory of the District. The industrial area is represented by 17 companies. The largest plant: SA "Marsrut", OJSC "Kaan" experimental mechanical plant (included in the national privatization program.
Outstanding architectural monuments are the Old Prince's Church Capriana Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Moldova, built between 1491 and 1496 by Stephen the Great.
