Rybnik is a town in southern Poland (Silesian Voivodeship). Located at a distance of 290 km south of Warsaw, on the border with the Czech Republic. The population of the city is over 140 thousand people. The linear distance from Rybnik to Ivano-Frankivsk is 465 km. Rybnik is a county town and ranks 25th in Poland's largest city in terms of population and 14th in terms of territory. The town of Rybnik is divided into 27 precincts, most of which have the status of suburbs.

The exact date of the beginning of the existence of the city of Rybnik is unknown. The first traces of human presence in the city date back to about 8 thousand years BC. The city received the Magdeburg right in 1327. In the Middle Ages, Rybnik was a fishing village located on an important commercial route in the Ratsibor principality. On the outskirts of the city, there were many fish ponds, thanks to which the city was named Rybnik (from Old Polish "fish pond"). In the postwar years, the partially destroyed city slowly began to rebuild. The emphasis was primarily on the development of the coal industry, as well as education, culture and sports.

Rybnik does not have high-class cultural and architectural monuments, but there are some old and interesting objects in the city. They are concentrated mainly in the city center. The most important are: St. Anthony's Basilica - a neo-Gothic shrine, designed by Louis Schneider in 1903-1906, the most important shrine in Silesia; the building of the ancient Eldership in Rybnik in 1887; neoclassical building of the new town hall, built in 1928; classicist ancient town hall with a clock tower in 1822, now the premises of the city museum and others.

Rybnik is quite a green city, it took first place in Poland in the competition Green City 2000. In the city, there are 6 green areas with the status of parks, as well as dozens of areas with the status of parks. The current area of green urban areas exceeds 103 hectares. On the outskirts of the city on the north side is the Local History Park, which still has a water network, made by hand. Rybnik is home to the newest mountain stadium in Poland and one of the longest Polish bicycle path networks - a route of over 100 km. The first private post office in Poland operates in Rybnik. The tourist areas in Rybnik include mainly: Rybnitsa Bay, the Old Town, the ROW Aeroclub, as well as numerous parks and forests.
