Lublin is one of the oldest Polish settlements. Back in the VI century on the slopes of Mount Chvartek (the name comes from the trading day) began to settle settlers. The settlement received in 1317 the Magdeburg right.

Today, Lublin is the center of the Lublin Voivodeship, the largest city and industrial, cultural and scientific center in Eastern Poland. The population of the city is 365 thousand people.

Due to a large number of historical monuments, sports and wellness and hotel facilities, the city is an important tourist center.

The historical part of the city occupies a relatively small space between the Krakow Gate and the castle. The Old Town Hall, built in the 15th century, housed the Crown Tribunal. The market retains its ancient beauty: Renaissance townhouses, once owned by wealthy merchant families, enriched by trade.

Attractions of the city are: Cracow Gate, Grodno Gate, Castle with a castle chapel, Archcathedral, Dominican Church, Bernardine Church, Church of the Holy Spirit, Church of Brigitte, Church of St. Nicholas on the Quarter, Church of St. Michael the Archangel, Archangel, cemeteries.

The Great Lublin Castle is located on a high hill and has little in common with the original defensive building built on this site in the 14th century. The current building appeared in the XIX century; For a long time there was a prison here, and now there is the Lublin Museum. Only the round tower of the previous castle ensemble has survived.

Industry, especially automobile, food and metallurgy, is flourishing in Lublin.

There are many educational institutions in Lublin. Among them are the University of Lublin, the Lublin Polytechnic, the Lublin Medical Academy, the Lublin Agrarian Academy, and the Catholic University of Lublin.

In addition to the above, the city has many interesting museums, philharmonics, theaters and operettas.

4 km from the center of Lublin is the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp Maidanek, today a memorial where more than 80,000 prisoners died, mostly Jews.

To the west of Lublin (at a distance of 30-50 km) are three important tourist centers: the famous sanatorium Nalenczów, which specializes in the treatment of heart disease, a large industrial center Pulawy, where in the past lived glorious magnates and Kazimierz Dolny - a favorite place of tourists and artists. Located on the Vistula, the beautiful city boasts ancient Renaissance townhouses, elegant houses of famous artists, a majestic Renaissance church and the ruins of an ancient castle on a high hill. Kazimierz Dolny is especially popular among artists.
