    The city of Prerov is located in the east of the Czech Republic, in the historic region of Moravia, today the region of Prerov. The population of the city is 46,897 inhabitants, the area of ​​the city is 5,848 hectares.

    The town of Prerov was first mentioned in writing in 1141. In 1256 it received the status of a "royal city". As a result of continuous hostilities in the area of ​​Prerov during the Thirty Years' War, the city was depopulated and in decline. After the construction of the Vienna-Brno railway in 1839, which connected Prerov with the capital of the Austrian Empire, a gradual revival of the city began. In June 1945, a tragedy known as the Przerow massacre took place in Prerov, when about two hundred German refugees were shot.

    Prerov is the hometown of composer and pianist Gideon Klein.

    Helicopter air forces are based in Prerov. Today Prerov is an administrative, social and cultural center with a developed economy. The city is divided into 12 administrative units (districts).
