2022.03.28

In March 2022, sales of plug-in vehicles worldwide increased by 60% to 851 thousand, accounting for 15% of the total automotive market. The share of pure electric vehicles, excluding plug-in hybrids, amounted to 11%. This is the first time that sales of electric vehicles have exceeded 10%. In addition, 832 thousand conventional hybrids were sold worldwide. Thus, the total share of electrified cars in global sales reached 30%.

According to some forecasts, in five years, sales of electric cars in Europe will exceed the number of cars with internal combustion engines sold. By 2028, sales of electric cars in Europe will reach 55%.

Globally, this result is expected only by 2035, experts say. By 2035, sales of electric cars in the world will account for 54%, compared to 8% at present. By this time, 85% of sales in Europe will be taken by such cars. In North America, their share will be 62%, and in China - 64%. Due to a number of reasons, including the fuel crisis, the demand for electric vehicles has grown in Ukraine as well. However, proper charging station infrastructure is needed to expand their use. Therefore, as part of the Romania-Ukraine Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project, a charging station for electric vehicles with solar panels will be installed in Ivano-Frankivsk, which will be an important addition to the city's infrastructure for electric cars.

The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project is funded by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by the countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program.
