#Part4CM The project aims to draw attention to the problem of climate change. One of the ways to do this at the global level is the "Earth Hour"

2021.03.26

The global Earth Hour campaign is one of the largest international environmental campaigns, during which people turn off lighting and electrical appliances for an hour to show their willingness to use natural resources sparingly. The campaign was launched by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature). In Sydney, Australia, in 2007, 2.2 million homes and organizations simultaneously turned off their lights for one hour. This act inspired many people around the world to fight climate change. A year later, the event became a global environmental initiative that involved more than 100 million people in 35 countries.

It was supported in different parts of the world. Cities such as Paris, Milan, and London turn off the lights of many large objects during Earth Hour. For many years, the Sydney Theater, the London Eye, the Colosseum in Rome, the Egyptian pyramids, and other world landmarks and buildings have been dimmed at this time. And in 2009, Earth Hour was an unprecedented success, with 4,088 cities in 88 countries participating.

The event is held annually on the last Saturday of March, and this year it falls on March 27. To participate, turn off the lights and electrical appliances for an hour, from 20:30 to 21:30.

The project «RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation» (RO-UA PART4CM) project is financed by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program «Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020».
