#SF We continue to share information about the types, purpose and functioning of data centers

2023.04.27

As the "Secure Future" project involves the establishment of a data center, we continue to share information about the types, purpose, and operation of data centers. The main function of data centers is the processing, storage and distribution of data. To perform these tasks, there are different types of data centers, ranging from large facilities to small peripheral sites, from private facilities of one company to multi-user centers. To perform these tasks, there are different types of data centers, ranging from large facilities to small peripheral sites, from private facilities of one company to multi-user centers.

The most common types of data centers include enterprise, colocation, hyperscale, cloud, edge, and managed services data centers.

  • Enterprise data centers are built and owned by organizations for use by their internal end users.
  • Colocation or multi-tenant data centers are leased premises in colocation centers owned by third parties.
  • Hyperscale data centers are large computing infrastructures that maximize hardware density while minimizing cooling costs and administrative overhead.
  • Cloud data centers are located off-site, managed by third-party or public cloud providers.
  • Peripheral or micro data centers are smaller decentralized facilities located close to users.
  • Managed services data centers are controlled by third parties and provide all aspects of data storage and computing services.

The project "Secure Future" (SF, 1HARD/4.3/36) is implemented within the framework of the Joint Operational Program Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 with co-financing from the European Union ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 . The project aims to build four data centers in each of the partner cities: Ivano-Frankivsk, Solotvino, Baia-Mare and Sighet. The data center in Ivano-Frankivsk will be located in a communal building at the Rukh stadium.
