The first good practice of the project partners!
How to ensure sustainable energy supply and reduce costs in healthcare facilities?
Under the project “DAPHNE - Decarbonizing Healthcare in the EU Regions” of the Interreg Europe program, partners learned about an innovative approach to financing and managing renewable energy sources during a study visit to Florence.
The Campostaja Hospital in Poggibonsi implemented a solar panel system based on the Energy Performance Contract (EPC) model. This means that a private contractor invests in installing solar panels, and the funds are returned through energy savings generated by the system itself. This case demonstrates how public institutions can use financial mechanisms to improve energy efficiency without large capital investments.
The photovoltaic system is made up of a system of 166 kWp solar panels which allows the production of 215,000 kWh of electricity, thus allowing the hospital to reduce its "carbon footprint" by approximately 23 toe (tonnes of oil equivalent) per year and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere of almost 33 tonnes per year. With this new plant, combined with the cogeneration plant already present, more than 50% of the electricity needed by the facility annually will be self-produced.
In January, this good practice, identified by the DAPHNE project, was approved by the Program and published on the website https://www.interregeurope.eu/good-practices/energy-performance-contract-for-fv-system-in-campostaggia-hospital-poggibonsi-italy
