#JCulture We continue a series of informative lectures for young people as part of the project

2023.03.27

We continue a series of informative lectures for young people as part of the project "Research and preservation of Jewish cultural heritage in the border area". This time, students of the Ivano-Frankivsk Professional Construction Lyceum and the Faculty of Tourism of the Precarpathian National University had the opportunity to learn more about the history of Jews in our city. During the lectures, the students were told about the role of the Jewish community in the development and construction of Stanislaviv since its foundation, given that at that time Jews were the largest community of the city's multinational population.

The young people were interested in learning about the still-preserved buildings where famous members of the Jewish community lived and which had a significant impact on the development of the city at the time. The students were also told about the synagogues that once existed in the city, and in particular about the only currently active Synagogue on Stratshenykh Street. Lecturer Khrystyna Tymoshiv introduced the audience to interesting Jewish traditions and customs and told them about the origin of some words.

The numerous victims of the Holocaust in our city were also mentioned, after which only a little over a hundred people out of a Jewish community of thousands survived. Such lectures allow students to learn more about the multicultural heritage of our city and encourage them to study history more deeply on their own.

The project "Research and preservation of Jewish cultural heritage in the border area" (JCulture) is implemented within the framework of the Cross-border Cooperation Programme of the EIS Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020, financed by the European Union.
