#NEF Matrix of impact levels and types of innovation support
In November-December 2023, as part of the New Economy of Ivano-Frankivsk project, PPV Economic Development Agency organized three seminars on innovation management. The seminars were attended by a total of more than 30 representatives of universities, local authorities, business development organizations, entrepreneurs, and local business managers.
Based on the results of the discussions, PPV prepared recommendations for the development of the innovation ecosystem in Ivano-Frankivsk (January 2024):
In addition, Volodymyr Vorobey, the head of the agency, created a matrix that visualized different levels of influence and support for innovation.
At each stage of development, innovations require certain resources - but these are different types of resources.
The matrix clearly demonstrates what kind of support mass-produced products, commercial technologies, mature businesses, and transformational policies need at different levels of development, because they all evolve in the process of development and should be supported properly at all stages.
"How do we measure the impact of the support we provide to entrepreneurs and businesses? What if we supported a startup that never became a viable business? So what if we organized a workshop, but the product never appeared on the market? So what if we supported the search for a new technology if it was never brought to actual implementation? What good did we do if we advised on solutions that were not implemented or did not help?
Have we chosen the right formats and types of support and are we using them in the project? Perhaps instead of short consultations, we need longer mentoring for business owners, and instead of product workshops, we need to pay for the services of product designers? Maybe businesses need more money for innovation vouchers?
The matrix of levels of impact and types of innovation support summarizes our experience with the New Economy of Ivano-Frankivsk. This matrix provides a framework for assessing the impact of both innovations and efforts to support the innovation activities of innovation agents (legal entities and individuals who are concerned with and engaged in a particular innovation idea)," Volodymyr Vorobey
