#Part4CM One of the aspects to which the project is directed is informing about the harmful impact on the environment and preventing its deepening
Climate change remains in the top threats of 2023, because of the war in Ukraine in particular. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development has identified five global threats of 2023, among which is climate change.
These threats were partly caused by Russia's attack on Ukraine, as was reported by the Ministry of Environment. For example, war deepens the climate crisis, causing considerable carbon emissions and other greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere.
According to the latest estimates of the Ministry of Environment and international experts, because of the war, at least 33 million tCO2e emissions (amount of carbon dioxide) were recorded.
In particular, these emissions are:
- Because of warfare – about 8.9 million tCO2e;
- Because of the movement of internally displaced persons – about 1 million tCO2e;
- Because of fires – more than 23.4 million tCO2e.
Potential indirect greenhouse gasses emissions due to the necessity of postwar recovery and reconstruction valued at about 48.7 million tCO2e.
The project «RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation» (RO-UA PART4CM) project is financed by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program «Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020».
