#Part4CM The problem of climate change is undoubtedly global.

2021.01.28

Therefore, the Romania-Ukraine Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project envisages a number of activities, including raising awareness of this problem and possible solutions.

The effects of climate change cost Ukraine UAH 2.7 billion in 2020. In 2020, the State Budget of Ukraine allocated UAH 2.689 billion to prevent and respond to emergencies caused by climate change. The state budget expenditures can be divided into several categories: fire relief; flood relief; and drought relief.

In total, almost UAH 400 million was allocated from the special fund of the State Budget of Ukraine in 2020 to fight forest fires, eliminate their consequences and compensate for losses. The total amount of expenditures from the special fund of the State Budget for flood relief in western Ukraine amounted to UAH 2.1 billion. Infrastructure restoration and reconstruction of buildings are still ongoing. To counteract climate change and mitigate the impact of its consequences on people's lives, we need to act systematically and urgently.

The most important thing that the Ukrainian government can do now is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen climate change adaptation measures. According to a study by the European Commission, 1 euro invested in flood adaptation can save 6 euros in flood relief.

The project «RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation» (RO-UA PART4CM) project is financed by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program «Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020».
