#Part4CM The project aims to draw attention to the problem of climate change and reduce the harmful impact on the environment

2021.10.25

The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project aims to draw attention to the problem of climate change and reduce the harmful impact on the environment, in particular throug the transition to renewable energy sources. By 2030, the countries of the world should triple their global investments in renewable energy and stop investing in fossil fuels to limit global warming to 1.5°C. This is the key conclusion of the annual authoritative World Energy Outlook 2021 (WEO), which was presented on October 13 by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Achieving climate neutrality by 2050 requires a halt to fossil fuel exploration and the abandonment of new coal, gas, and oil facilities. In general, global investment in renewable energy should more than triple by 2030, and developed countries should fully decarbonize electricity by 2035. It should be noted that the WEO 2021 also takes into account the development of more problematic technologies, such as carbon capture and storage, and the rapidly increasing role of bioenergy, which has a higher potential for climate-resilient projects. Nevertheless, the use of the 1.5°C scenario as the main standard by the IEA is a significant step forward.

The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project is funded by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by the countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program.
