#Part4CM The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project aims to support the trend towards the transition to renewable energy sources to overcome the energy and climate crisis.
Experts from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) have called on governments to accelerate the energy transition to overcome the global energy and climate crisis. They note that short-term measures aimed at addressing the current energy crisis should be accompanied by a sustained focus on medium- and long-term energy transition goals. High fossil fuel prices, concerns about energy security, and the inevitability of climate change underscore the urgent need to move faster to clean energy. The key drivers of the energy transition should be electrification and energy efficiency through the development of renewable energy sources, hydrogen and sustainable biomass.
In particular, the trend towards the use of electric transport should be the driving force behind the progress of the energy transition to achieve a twentyfold increase in the number of sales and fleet of electric vehicles. However, to achieve the required levels of progress by 2030, a comprehensive set of cross-cutting structural policies covering all technology areas and goals of a just energy transition is needed. In addition, political commitment to sustain the highest level of international cooperation is needed to ensure a rapid transition.
The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project is funded by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by the countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program.
