#Part4CM The project disseminates information about alternative fuel vehicles

2021.08.28

The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project disseminates information about alternative fuel vehicles as one of the aspects of reducing harmful emissions and switching to alternative energy sources. Electric and hybrid cars, which are powered by electricity, are becoming more widespread around the world.

However, vehicles running on alternative fuels are not limited to electric cars. One of the types of such vehicles is hydrogen-powered cars. Recently, a hydrogen-fueled car was certified for the first time in Ukraine. The car was imported and certified by Oleksandr Repkin, who heads the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council.

The UHC president is convinced that hydrogen is a new environmentally friendly fuel for cars, trains, and airplanes. According to Repkin, hydrogen cars will soon become as commonplace as electric cars. It is noted that plans for the coming years include the development of infrastructure for hydrogen transport. The first steps include the certification of another car and the creation of the first hydrogen filling station in Ukraine. For now, the Japanese Toyota car will be refueled in neighboring Poland. Repkin noted that the certification of the hydrogen car took a month and a half, but now it will take only three days. The global goal of the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council and all those working on the hydrogen strategy is to make Ukraine a major hydrogen exporter to the EU thanks to its good renewable energy potential.

The project RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation is funded by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by the countries participating in the Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program.
