Given the seriousness of the climate change problem, the Romania-Ukraine Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project aims to raise awareness of the climate situation and measures to prevent further negative consequences.

The United Nations Security Council has recognized climate change as a serious threat to the security of the world, a problem that not only damages the environment but also undermines political, economic and social systems. This statement was made during the meeting on February 23, which was held online.

"The science is clear: we must limit the rise in global temperatures to one and a half degrees by the end of the century. And our duty is even more clear: we must protect people and communities affected by climate change. We must accelerate preparations for the consequences of the growing climate crisis for the sake of international peace and security," said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. He reminded of the importance of achieving the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and called for the creation of a global coalition aimed at achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions by the middle of the century.

Sir David Attenborough, a world-renowned naturalist and TV presenter, spoke at the meeting. He called climate change "the worst security threat that modern humanity has ever faced." In his opinion, pollution of the oceans, deterioration of access to clean water and food, and destruction of housing could provoke a conflict similar in scale to the First World War.

The project «RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation» (RO-UA PART4CM) project is financed by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program «Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020».
