#Part4CM Climate change leads to many unavoidable changes
Climate change leads to many irreversible changes, so, realizing the complexity of the consequences at the international level, most countries are already implementing projects designed to promote environmental preservation at the local or regional level.
One of these is theRO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project. Switching to alternative fuels, such as biogas, is one of the aspects of reducing the negative impact on the environment. In many cases, the environment benefits twice from the use of biogas. The first time is at the stage of production of this fuel. This is the case if it is extracted from livestock, food industry, wastewater, and municipal solid waste. When biogas is extracted from such raw materials, it fulfills an important environmental mission: it captures and uses methane for economic needs that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere.
At the same time, methane has a greenhouse effect 21 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. Therefore, keeping it out of the environment is very important in terms of fighting global warming. The second environmental advantage is manifested when biogas is burned, utilizing its energy in one way or another. The fact is that burning gas - both biogas and natural gas - causes much less environmental damage than burning coal. Therefore, replacing coal-fired power plants with gas-fired ones is one of the ways to combat climate change.
The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project is funded by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by the countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program.
