#SRER Representatives from Ivano-Frankivsk took part in a training on community capacity building

2024.03.29

On 21-22 March, Yevhenii Synoverskyi, Director, Division for Attraction Projects and Support of Investment Project of the Department of Investment Policy, Projects, International Relations, Tourism and Promotions, Main Specialist? Division for Attraction Projects and Support of Investment Project of the Department Anastasia Bakhir and Anastasia Tomyn, Main Specialist, Division for Attracting Interational Technical Assistance and Public Funds took part in a training on strengthening the capacity of communities to restore and develop their economic potential.

In addition to the delegation from Ivano-Frankivsk, the training was attended by representatives of 12 municipalities in Ukraine that are implementing local initiatives within the project "Support for Rapid Economic Recovery of Ukrainian Municipalities (SRER)".

The SRER project is funded by the German Government through the German federal company Deutsche Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine. It focuses on supporting the rapid economic recovery of communities, in particular through the reconstruction and improvement of infrastructure that is essential for business development, especially for small and medium businesses.

The purpose of the training is to strengthen the capacity of local officials and representatives of municipal enterprises to form partnerships between local governments, the business community and public sector, as well as executive authorities. This partnership will become a powerful basis for building a favourable business environment and joint project activities.

The training was the first of six events planned as part of a comprehensive training programme developed by the Association of Ukrainian Cities under the SRER. The successful completion of this programme will help strengthen Ivano-Frankivsk's capacity and develop the local team's capacity to implement economic recovery projects in partnership with businesses and other stakeholders.

Mustafa Sait-Ametov, UNDP Regional Development Programme Leader in Ukraine: "This training programme has a triple benefit for the participants. First, all 12 communities that joined the project have generated their own initiatives and are now actively implementing them. Their participation in the training programme will contribute to the successful completion of these initiatives, and thus to the recovery and further development of the communities.

Oleksandr Slobozhan, Executive Director of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, stressed the importance of the project not only for each of the 12 municipalities, which were able to implement their own initiatives, but also for the economic strengthening of Ukrainian communities to restore the whole of Ukraine. Oleksandr Slobozhan briefly announced the component of the Training Programme developed by the AUC under the SRER aimed at strengthening the capacity of communities.

During his speech, the AUC Executive Director stressed the value of implementing local initiatives, as their successful implementation will provide us with a well-established algorithm for implementing similar projects. The AUC will replicate these best practices among other municipalities in Ukraine.
