#DAPHNE Second meeting with project stakeholders!

On February 19, 2025, the second meeting with stakeholders took place within the framework of the DAPHNE project of the Interreg Europe program, dedicated to the decarbonization of the healthcare sector and the implementation of effective solutions to reduce emissions and save energy. Ihor Popadiuk, Director of the Department, shared the results of the first stage of the project - context analysis. Participants focused on reducing carbon emissions in healthcare facilities, introducing renewable energy, modernizing infrastructure, and improving energy efficiency in hospitals.

One of the key issues of the meeting was the need to provide hospitals with 100% renewable energy. Research conducted by ADAMSON representatives has shown that hospitals consume significant amounts of energy, which puts an additional impact on the environment. There are already a number of best practices in place, including a photovoltaic system over the parking lot and energy-efficient lighting in the hospital in Poggibonsi, Italy. This solution not only reduces emissions, but also significantly optimizes energy costs. Participants discussed the possibility of implementing similar practices in our hospitals, which will help reduce dependence on traditional energy sources and reduce environmental impact.

Another equally important topic was the modernization of the infrastructure of medical facilities. In the face of rising energy costs and climate change, hospitals should invest in zero-emission technologies. This includes building insulation, implementation of modern ventilation systems, automation of energy consumption and use of environmentally friendly materials. Special attention was paid to analyzing available resources and finding effective mechanisms for such changes.

The importance of energy management in hospitals was also emphasized. Medical facilities operate around the clock, making them one of the largest energy consumers. Implementation of energy management systems allows not only to effectively control and reduce resource consumption, but also to ensure the smooth operation of all vital processes in hospitals. 

The meeting demonstrated that reducing carbon emissions in the healthcare sector is not only an environmental but also an economic necessity. Implementing energy-efficient solutions and sustainable approaches will help create a greener and more sustainable healthcare system for future generations.
