#DAPHNE Energy-efficient hospitals: best practices for decarbonizing healthcare in the EU
As part of the DAPHNE project - Decarbonisation of Healthcare in EU Regions, implemented under the Interreg Europe program, we present successful examples of energy efficiency in healthcare.
One such example is the Capital Estates Energy Bureau of the Health Service Executive (HSE) in Ireland. This unit works to optimize energy consumption in hospitals and medical facilities by implementing comprehensive energy solutions and modern energy management technologies. The system includes energy consumption monitoring, equipment modernization, transition to renewable energy sources, and implementation of energy-efficient building solutions.
Thanks to such initiatives, the HSE has been able to significantly reduce energy costs, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and create more comfortable and safer conditions for patients and staff. This practice demonstrates how a systematic approach to energy consumption management in healthcare facilities can be an important step towards sustainable and low-carbon healthcare development.
As part of the project, we are actively studying and adapting similar successful practices, contributing to improving the energy efficiency of healthcare facilities, reducing their carbon footprint, and developing green infrastructure in healthcare.
