#EdAH Group Critique: How We Talk About Artworks

2025.10.20

How do we choose our words, tones, and positions as observers and co-authors when we talk about art? How do our experiences, education, and context shape what we see in a work of art - and how our judgments, openness, or resistance to interpretation are formed?

These questions were at the heart of a workshop for adults of the School of Contemporary Art organized for teenagers within the framework of the project “Educational-Artistic Horizons without Borders (EdAH)”, implemented withing the Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine program with the support of the European Union.

Together, we explored the phenomenon of group critique - as a space of co-presence where conversation becomes a tool of exploration rather than a competition of opinions. Working with real artworks created by participants, we observed how perception shifts depending on the questions we ask and the perspective we take.

In conclusion, we attempted to formulate principles of ethical and attentive dialogue about art - one that does not impose judgments, but opens up possibilities for understanding.
