#EdAH Mimesis, Homage, and Imitation: “Steal Like an Artist”

During our creative workshop for teenagers, we talked about how artists reinterpret existing ideas, quote others, play with contexts - and still manage to stay true to themselves.

Together, we explored works of contemporary Ukrainian art from the exhibition at the Labyrinth Gallery in Lublin, which ran until November 16, 2025. Each participant chose a favorite artwork to reinterpret - some experimented with technique or color, others changed the medium or composition, while some kept the original idea but gave it a completely new form.

We discussed what it really means to “imitate” in art - what is worth preserving from the “other,” and what should be added from your “own”? The session was full of laughter, reflections, and unexpected discoveries - and, of course, the timeless question: can you really do anything you want in contemporary art ?
