#EdAH Text as material for contemporary art

We continue to share insights about the functioning of the School of Contemporary Art within the framework of the project “Educational-Artistic Horizons beyond the Borders ”(EdAH), implemented within the Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine 2021-2027 program with the support of the European Union.

The workshop by Olena Turianska, “Working with Text in Art: An Introduction,” became the first workshop of 2026 and the first public presentation of her studio, opening a conversation about how text exists and functions in art . The session offered an immersion into different modes of text: as material, gesture, process, document, and a tool of artistic expression.

Olena invited participants to look at text beyond literary logic - as a form that can be bodily, visual, performative, or collective.

A key point of the discussion was Sophie Calle’s “Take Care of Yourself”, an example of how a personal text can be transformed into a polyphonic artistic structure and become a space for interpretation, distance, and care.
