#EdAH VR in Product Design: Exploring Space in a New Way

2026.08.24

As part of the 3D design workshop series, participants continued exploring the possibilities of virtual reality, learning to use VR equipment and experimenting with its application in the creative process.

Special attention was given to working with VR headsets. Participants revisited the product design objects they had created during previous workshops and experienced them not simply as individual 3D models, but as part of a complete spatial environment.

In the virtual space, they explored the scale, form, proportions, and visual perception of their objects, while also observing how a design changes depending on its context and interacts with the surrounding environment.

An especially engaging part of the workshop was placing the created works in an outdoor environment, allowing participants to evaluate them in a new spatial and visual context. Thanks to VR, they could view their objects from different angles and gain an experience that is difficult to replicate when working with traditional physical models.

This practical work helped participants better understand that in product design, it is not only the object itself that matters, but also the environment in which it exists. By comparing different placement options, they explored how space influences the perception of an object’s form, texture, colour, and functionality.

VR expands the possibilities of product design, allowing participants not only to create objects but also to explore their interaction with space before they are brought into the physical environment.

The event was held within the framework of the project “Educational-Artistic Horizons beyond the Borders ”(EdAH)”, implemented within the Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine 2021-2027 program with the support of the European Union.
