#HealthCities Innovation, Science, and Medicine - Results of the Study Visit to Lund

2026.06.16

A team from Ivano-Frankivsk participated in a partner meeting and study visit in Lund, Sweden, as part of the project “Health and Life sciences industries’ growth through cities alliances (Health Cities)”, which is being implemented under the Interreg Europe Program.

During three days, participants studied the experience of one of Europe’s leading centers in the sphere of Life Sciences & Health, where science, innovation, business, and the healthcare system are successfully integrated.

The visit began at Medicon Village — one of Scandinavia’s largest science and innovation clusters. Participants took part in thematic roundtables dedicated to the commercialization of scientific developments, access to funding, and human capital development. During the discussions, experts shared practical experience in supporting innovative companies, attracting investment, and developing international talent.

Study visits to the region’s leading scientific and innovation centers were a key part of the program. In particular, participants learned about the activities of SmiLe Venture Hub — one of the leading business accelerators for companies in the life sciences sector — visited MAX IV — the world’s most powerful synchrotron radiation source — as well as the ATMP Centre at Skåne University Hospital, where advanced methods of cell and gene therapy are being implemented.

Special attention was given to the development of the Lund Innovation District — an innovation hub that brings together universities, research institutions, businesses, and investors to create new solutions in the fields of healthcare and biomedical sciences.

On the final day, participants visited Medeon — a leading center for medical innovation in Malmö — as well as the Medicon Valley Alliance in Copenhagen — one of Europe’s strongest cross-border ecosystems in the life sciences, uniting Sweden and Denmark.

The study visit served as an important platform for project partners to exchange experiences, establish new international contacts, and identify solutions that can be applied to advance the healthcare and biomedical sciences sectors in Ivano-Frankivsk.
