#HealthCities European Experience in the Development of the Healthcare and Biomedical Sciences Sectors: Third Stakeholder Meeting

2026.06.18

On June 17, 2026, the third meeting with stakeholders was held in Ivano-Frankivsk as part of the project “Health and Life sciences industries’ growth through cities alliances (Health Cities)”, which is being implemented under the Interreg Europe Program.

The event brought together representatives of local government, healthcare institutions, universities, research institutions, and business to discuss the prospects for developing the life sciences and health ecosystem in the İvano-Frankivsk community.

Participants were presented with the project’s key results and findings, as well as insights gained during study visits to the Netherlands and Sweden. Particular attention was paid to good practices in developing innovative ecosystems in the fields of healthcare and biomedical sciences.

During the presentation of the results of the visit to Utrecht, participants learned about the experience of Utrecht Science Park, which demonstrates the effective integration of  university, hospitals, research centers, and businesses into a single innovation ecosystem. Also presented were the practices of the Utrecht International Center, aimed at attracting and retaining international specialists, as well as the activities of UtrechtInc, one of the Netherlands’ leading startup incubators, the Jaarbeurs Innovation Mile, and the National Growth Fund initiative — all of which demonstrate how large-scale national investment programs can contribute to the development of innovative infrastructure, support entrepreneurship, attract investment, and create a favorable environment for the growth of high-tech companies.

A separate session was devoted to the results of the study visit to Lund, where participants learned about the activities of Medicon Village, SmiLe Venture Hub, MAX IV, the European Spallation Source, the ATMP Center, Medeon Science Park, and the Medicon Valley Alliance — leading European platforms that promote innovation, technology transfer, investment attraction, and the commercialization of scientific research.

The meeting served as a platform for discussing opportunities to adapt European practices to local conditions, seeking new partnerships, and developing ideas for the further development of the healthcare and biomedical sciences sector in Ivano-Frankivsk.
