#IFSynergy Environmental education in action: how children learn to conserve water
On November 12, the fourth educational workshop was held as part of the project “IFSynergy – Cross-Border Cooperation in SMART Water Supply Management in the Cities of Ivano-Frankivsk and Siedlce”, implemented within the framework of the Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine 2021–2027 program.
The workshop was attended by 3rd grade students of Lyceum No. 1, who interactively explored how much water we use every day and why it is so important to treat it with respect. Together with their teachers, the children found out what proportion of water on the planet is suitable for life, conducted a mini-experiment to see how many liters of water can flow out in just a few seconds from an open tap, and discussed ways to use it sparingly at home, at school, and in nature.
While watching the cartoon “Save Water to Help the Earth,” the students learned simple rules for water conservation, and in the team game “Water Conservation,” they created their own posters with ideas on how to use water sparingly in different places - in the kitchen, bathroom, classroom, or yard.
The meeting ended with a reflection session, during which the children shared their thoughts on what they had learned and how each of them could become a friend of water. The main conclusion of the lesson was that it is easy to conserve water if you do it every day and with love for nature.
