#IFSynergy Water - the source of life: a nature lesson for children

2025.11.11

On November 10, in Lyceum No. 4 in Ivano-Frankivsk, the third educational workshop for 2nd and 3rd grade pupils was held as part of the project "IFSynergy – Cross-border Cooperation in SMART Water Supply Management in the Cities of Ivano-Frankivsk and Siedlce," implemented under the Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine 2021–2027 program.

In a discussion entitled “Water - the basis of life,” the schoolchildren discussed where water is found on the planet, why only a small part of it is suitable for drinking, and how important it is to conserve fresh water resources. During a mini-experiment, they saw for themselves how insignificant the proportion of fresh water is among all the planet’s water reserves.

Next, the participants learned about the water cycle in nature - how it evaporates, turns into clouds, and then returns to Earth as rain. In the mini-experiment “How are clouds formed?”, the children observed the process of condensation and then created their own drawings - “The Journey of a Drop of Water.”

The game “Lightning” turned learning into a fun adventure: the children solved rebuses and crossword puzzles about water, natural reservoirs, and precipitation. In the creative block, they created their own diagrams of the water cycle, explaining why this natural process is so important for all living things.

At the end, the schoolchildren jointly created a poster called “Rules for Clean Water.” Each child drew a cloud and wrote down their own rule for saving water - turning off the tap, not throwing trash in the sink, collecting rainwater for irrigation, and keeping water bodies clean.
