#INSPIRE Therapeutic Gardens - Nature That Helps Children Grow

As part of the “INSPIRE project – Inclusive and Developmental Spaces for Progressive, Innovative and Adaptive Education” project, implemented under the Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine 2021-2027 program, we are focusing particularly on the therapeutic potential of nature in schools and educational spaces.

Many European schools are creating therapeutic gardens, which serve as special environments for children with diverse needs to unwind emotionally. These spaces are equipped with tactile zones for sensory experiences, auditory zones featuring natural sounds, and aromatic corners with herbs and flowers, where children can relax, feel safe, and learn to concentrate. Therapeutic gardens are used for various activities: children care for plants, collect seeds, observe insects, conduct small experiments, or simply relax among the greenery. This supports the development of emotional intelligence, reduces stress, fosters mindfulness and tolerance, and stimulates social interaction and teamwork.

As part of INSPIRE, we’re implementing similar approaches in our learning spaces, creating inclusive eco-zones where every child can experience nature as a source of support and inspiration. These small moments spent in nature today help shape emotionally resilient, attentive, and happy children tomorrow, and the environment becomes for them not just a space for learning, but also a place for renewal and growth.
