#INSPIRE Therapeutic Gardens as Spaces for Recovery and Development
As part of the information and communication campaign for the project INSPIRE — Inclusive and Developmental Spaces for Progressive, Innovative, and Adaptive Education, implemented under the Interreg NEXT Romania–Ukraine 2021–2027 program, we are exploring best practices for creating therapeutic spaces that could be useful for developing similar environments in Ivano-Frankivsk.
One interesting example is the therapeutic garden on the grounds of the VDNG in Kyiv — a space designed for recovery, relaxation, and emotional relief. Its concept is based on the idea that the natural environment can serve as an important tool for supporting people.
In this garden, special attention is paid not only to landscaping but also to how people interact with the space. Plants, natural materials, various textures, cozy spots to linger, and thoughtful lighting create an environment where one can slow down, relax, and restore inner balance.
The approach to lighting is also interesting. It is integrated into the natural environment in such a way as not to create excessive visual strain but, on the contrary, to maintain the garden’s peaceful atmosphere in the evening. Such solutions demonstrate just how important a comprehensive approach to designing a therapeutic space is.
This example is particularly valuable for the INSPIRE project, as the project also includes the creation of two therapeutic gardens — in Ivano-Frankivsk and Botosani.
A therapeutic garden is a space where nature, comfort, and a thoughtfully designed environment can come together to create new opportunities for recovery, development, and learning.
