#INSPIRE Experiencing Nature Together: A Workshop for Children and Parents

2026.06.12

As part of the INSPIRE project – Inclusive and Developmental Spaces for Progressive, Innovative and Adaptive Education, implemented under the Interreg NEXT Romania–Ukraine 2021–2027 Programme, a workshop entitled “The Invisible Threads of Nature” was organized for schoolchildren and their parents.

The main goal of workshop was to strengthen the emotional bond between parents and children, develop sensory perception, and foster a caring attitude toward the environment.

During the tour of the Municipal Children’s Ecological Station, participants explored nature from a new perspective. Near the greenhouses, in the arboretum, and around the animal corner, they observed plants and animals while sharing their thoughts and impressions on how nature teaches care, harmony, and mutual understanding.

Particular interest was generated by the sensory activities, during which children and parents explored the world through scents, touch, and physical sensations. Participants identified the aromas of medicinal herbs, recognized natural objects by touch, and walked barefoot along a “sensory trail,” learning to listen more carefully to themselves and to the natural world around them.

Another important part of the workshop was the “Living Choice” activity, where each family selected a natural object that resonated most with them. This exercise helped participants understand how differently people can perceive the world around them and highlighted the importance of sharing feelings and experiences with loved ones.

The workshop concluded with the “Growing Together” activity, during which mothers and children planted small plants in flowerpots together. For each family, the plant became a symbol of care, love, support, and shared growth. Participants also exchanged warm reflections about one another during the closing session, making the event even more meaningful and heartfelt.

Such activities not only expand knowledge about nature but also create opportunities for quality family interaction, the development of emotional intelligence, and the promotion of environmental awareness.
