#InterCities A Dialogue Between Art and History: Festival Exhibitions Open at the Potocki Palace
As part of the STAR CITY festival, the Potocki Palace hosted the opening of two exhibition projects that brought together contemporary art, architecture and the city’s historical heritage. The festival is being held as part of the project ‘Intercultural Consciousness of Multinational Cities: Tolerance of New Generations’.
The exhibition ‘A Complex Moment’ by artist and restorer Maksym Chornyi became a space for artistic exploration of form, space and perception. The artist combined traditional painting with the concept of the ‘non-painting’, creating mirrored compositions and visual contrasts between the image and its reflection. The exhibition encourages viewers to look at familiar objects in a new light, examining their structure and interaction with space.
An architectural and archaeological exhibition was also opened, accompanied by a curatorial tour led by research staff from the Potocki Palace. Visitors had the opportunity to view unique artefacts that tell the story of the development of the urban environment and the history of the palace complex. Among the exhibits are a collection of authentic bricks, tiles, medical finds from the hospital period, and the latest archaeological discoveries, which help to rethink Ivano-Frankivsk’s past and its influence on the present day.
The exhibition openings were also attended by guests from Romania, highlighting the festival’s international character and the importance of cultural exchange between countries.
Simultaneous interpreting between English and Ukrainian during the event was provided by students from Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University as part of their interpreting placement. This was an important part of the festival’s international communication and provided valuable professional experience for the future interpreters.
The events attracted numerous guests, artists, researchers and culture enthusiasts. The exhibitions served as yet another example of how art and history can create a space for dialogue and reflection on urban identity.
