#InterCities Wood Restoration technicians forum

2025.08.07

August 7–9, 2025

Maramures Village Museum “Mihai Dencuș”, Sighet Marmației

In a world where built heritage needs skilled hands, vision, and continuity, wonderful things are happening here. From August 7 to 9, 2025, the Wood Restoration technicians forum will take place, a vibrant space for learning, meeting, and collaborating, dedicated to those who believe in the value of wood as a testimony of our cultural identity.

For three days, Sighet becomes the place where tradition meets innovation. Folk craftsmen, architects, researchers, museum and heritage specialists, and university professors from Romania and Ukraine will share ideas, best practices, and examples of responsible interventions on vernacular wooden architecture.

The program includes:

- Demonstration workshops and hands-on sessions

- Presentations and discussions on conserving vernacular architecture

- Modern technologies applied in restoration — from traditional tools to 3D scanning

- Support and certification schemes for craftsmen — best practices from the House of Arts in Sibiu, part of the ASTRA Museum complex

- Experience exchange across generations and borders

The forum is part of the project “Intercultural Consciousness of Multinational Cities: Tolerance of New Generations (InterCities)”, funded by the Interreg VI-A NEXT Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine program, Priority 2: A healthy and attractive border region, Objectives 2.2. Culture, SO 4.6 Enhancing the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion and social innovation. It is implemented in partnership with the Executive Committee of the Ivano-Frankivsk Local Council as project leader. InterCities supports cross-border cooperation, professional training, and the promotion of living heritage.

Partnership with the ASTRA Museum provides valuable expertise and exceptional support in organizing the forum.
