#InterCities Film, Culture, and Heritage: MMIFF2026 in Sighetu Marmatiei
August 19–21, 2026, as part of the project “Intercultural Consciousness of Multinational Cities: Tolerance of New Generations", implemented within the Interreg VI A NEXT Hungary–Slovakia–Romania–Ukraine program, MMIFF2026 took place in Sighetu Marmației, Romania — a festival that brought together film, cultural heritage, and people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
The festival opened at the “Mihai Dencuș” Maramureș Village Museum, which served as one of the event’s main venues. There, participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the region’s traditional culture and take part in the film program.
A guided tour of the historic center of Sighetu Marmatiei was a highlight of the program. Participants learned about the city’s history, its architecture, and its rich multicultural heritage, which is an integral part of its identity.
A separate meeting at the Maramures Village Museum was dedicated to presenting the activities and results achieved within the InterCities project. This provided an opportunity to share experiences from the project’s implementation and showcase the results of their collaborative work.
The festival program concluded with the MMIFF2026 film night, which brought participants together around the art of cinema and created a space for communication and the exchange of impressions.
