#InterCities The literary space of the STAR CITY festival: a dialogue between cultures through the written word
As part of the STAR CITY Festival, literary readings and themed meetings took place at the Congress Centre of the Potocki Palace, bringing together writers, academics, artists and festival guests to discuss the themes of the city, memory, culture and intercultural dialogue.
This event is part of the project ‘Intercultural Consciousness of Multinational Cities: Tolerance of New Generations’.
During the literary reading featuring Taras Prokhasko and Ivan Monolatii, participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a multi-layered image of the city as a space where the histories, voices and experiences of different generations and ethnic communities intertwine. The discussion touched on themes such as the interaction between the old and modern city, the presence of cultures in literary texts, and the formation of urban identity. The meeting was moderated by Olga Derkachova.
A literary event entitled ‘To Ukraine. Love, War – SOLIDARITY’ was also held, featuring Professor Katarzyna Kuchinska-Koshan—a literary scholar, essayist and author of poetic prose, and professor at the Institute of Polish Philology at Adam Mickiewicz University. The event provided a space for a heartfelt conversation about literature, war, memory, support and cultural solidarity between nations.
A separate part of the programme was the academic presentation ‘Shadows over Stanislaviv: new documents on Corassini, Benoit and the mysterious murder’. During the event, participants learnt more about the founders of early Stanislaviv and new historical documents that shed light on previously unknown aspects of the city’s history, its architects and its urban development.
The events were also attended by international guests, including representatives from Romania and Poland, which highlighted the importance of intercultural exchange and international cooperation within the festival.
Simultaneous interpreting in English–Ukrainian was provided by students from Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University as part of their interpreting placement, facilitating comfortable communication between participants and guests at the event.
The festival’s literary events became a space for lively dialogue, new insights and cultural interaction, where words brought together people, experiences and stories.
