#InterCities A city that speaks through its heritage: the Forum “Dialogue of Cultures”
On November 20-21, Ivano-Frankivsk became a space for meeting, dialogue, and co-creation - the Potocki Palace hosted the “Dialogue of Cultures” Forum as part of the project “Intercultural Consciousness of Multinational Cities: Tolerance of New Generations", implemented within the Interreg VI A NEXT Hungary–Slovakia–Romania–Ukraine program.
These were two days of intense discussions about heritage - tangible and intangible, about the responsibility of society and professional communities, about how our cultural memory shapes the present and future of cities.
Ihor Popadiuk, Director of the Department, gave a welcoming speech. Participants were also greeted by Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv, Oksana Shychuk, representative of the Interreg Next VI-X program branch office, and Dr. Mirela Barz, manager of the Maramures Museum.
During the first day, four discussions were held with experts from Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Germany, and Sweden. They talked about:
- why heritage is often underappreciated;
- who sets the rules of the game in the field of heritage preservation;
- how to turn research into real results;
- how cultural heritage can become a resource for social and economic development.
Equally important was the format of the scientific tour of the Potocki Palace territory, which provided an opportunity to get involved in the research work currently underway there.
The second day was devoted to learning about living practices of heritage preservation in Halych: visits to the Museum of Karaiim History and Culture and a tour of the excavations in the entrance tower of Halych Castle. Participants also visited the Catholic kindergarten of St. Basil the Great, where they learned about how intercultural education works for the youngest children.
“Dialogue of Cultures” is not just a forum. It is a space where an understanding of our common past and a vision of our future based on respect, knowledge, and mutual support are formed.
