INTERCULTURAL CONSCIOUSNESS OF MULTINATIONAL CITIES: TOLERANCE OF NEW GENERATIONS. Promotion of multicultural heritage and restoration of historical sites: a new stage of cooperation between Ivano-Frankivsk and Sighet

The Executive Committee of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council (Ukraine), in partnership with the Maramureș Museum in Sighet (Romania), is starting the implementation of the Intercultural consciousness of multinational cities: tolerance of new generations project (InterCities), aimed at increasing the social tolerance to national communities and ethnic groups at the border of the European Union. This initiative seeks to improve two cultural tourist sites, building on the principles of cooperation and common values to centuries-old history for better discovering, preserving and promoting multicultural heritage. The project envisages a set of activities aimed at deepening the understanding of common values, developing intercultural dialogue, and increasing the tourist attractiveness of the region, in particular through:

  • Archaeological research of the Potocki Palace complex territory in Ivano-Frankivsk and the development of design and estimate documentation for its two buildings
  • Arrangement of the Centre of Intercultural Cooperation in Ivano-Frankivsk
  • Rehabilitation and restoration of 3 monument houses in Sighet belonging to specific ethnic groups
  • Holding Intercultural Festival in Ivano-Frankivsk and Festival-short film competition in Sighet
  • Holding two thematic forums in partner cities
  • Organization of Camp of architecture for students in Sighet
  • Creation of two alternative cultural routes linked to the Carpathian Cultural Route
  • Organization of meetings with stakeholders and lectures for students

The expected results from the planned activities' implementation include enrichment of the multicultural heritage of the cross-border region by improving tourist attractiveness, creating new cultural routes, raising awareness of multiculturalism, preserving common heritage, creating a network of experts in the field of intercultural cooperation, strengthening ties between partner cities and integrating local heritage into the EU cultural space to promote sustainable cooperation in the field of social, economic and cultural development. The total budget of the project is EUR 457,733.42, of which EUR 411,960.07 is funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Next Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine Program.
