Ivano-Frankivsk begins the path to implementing European waste management standards!
On 20 March 2025, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed in Kyiv between the Swedish WM4U Programme ‘Strengthening Municipal Waste Management in Ukraine’ and the Executive Committee of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council.
Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv signed the document, which opens up new opportunities for the city in the field of waste management. Through this cooperation, Ivano-Frankivsk will receive expert, technical and investment support in developing a modern waste management system in line with EU standards.
The programme will focus on creating an effective inter-municipal management model, improving the waste collection, sorting and recycling system, training specialists, developing local strategies and attracting investment. An important part of the initiative will be the exchange of experience with Swedish municipalities.
In parallel with the signing of the Memorandum, representatives of the Department of Investment Policy, Projects, International Relations, Tourism and Promotions of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council took part in a study visit to learn best practices in solid waste management in Krakow as part of the Europe, Let's Cooperate! 2025’ forum of the Interreg Europe programme.
Krakow demonstrates how modern infrastructure, digitalisation and effective policies can ensure sustainable urban development. The combination of a centralised management system, civic responsibility and investment in technology allows the city to achieve high environmental standards. This experience will be used to develop new solutions for our city. Ivano-Frankivsk is confidently moving towards the implementation of innovative environmental solutions that will help make the city cleaner and more comfortable for its residents!
