Ivano-Frankivsk Studies Lviv’s Experience in Preserving Cultural Heritage

2026.06.15

Representatives from the Cultural Heritage Protection Department of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council, the municipal enterprise Space for Innovative Creations Palace, and the project manager of the Global Expert Fund for Municipal Partnerships of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) visited Lviv on a study tour to learn about the city’s experience in the protection, preservation, and restoration of cultural heritage.

During the visit, the delegation learned about Lviv’s practices in the management and restoration of cultural heritage sites, as well as modern approaches to preserving the city’s historic environment.

Special attention was paid to the experience of implementing projects supported by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the outcomes of which formed the basis for the development of Lviv’s current co-financing programs for the preservation of historic buildings and cultural heritage sites.

Participants learned about the activities of the Office for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, the Lviv Cultural Hub, the School of Restoration, and the Lviv Municipal Enterprise “Heritage Bureau.” Specialists from the Office for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and the Heritage Bureau shared practical advice useful for the work of Ivano-Frankivsk’s Department of Cultural Heritage Protection and the municipal enterprise “Space for Innovative Creations PALACE.” Lviv’s experience serves as a valuable guide for improving approaches in our city. Participants also studied examples of the restoration of cultural heritage sites and historic buildings funded by private investment, as presented by designers and researchers from Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ihor Bokalo and Mariana Kaplinska, with whom they also visited the Central State Historical Archive.

We thank our partners in Lviv for the informative program, their openness to cooperation, and the opportunity to learn from their valuable experience.
