#JCulture On Tuesday, April 25, was held the final lecture of the series of cognitive lectures for young people
On Tuesday, April 25, was held the final lecture of the series of cognitive lectures for young people, aimed at familiarizing students with the multicultural heritage of our city, within the framework of the project "Research and preservation of Jewish cultural heritage in the border area". This time the students of King Danylo University became the listeners. They found out about the Jewish tourist route, created as part of the project, on excursions where you can get to know the architectural monuments of the city, related to the Jews, and the history of the Jewish community in our city.
Also, the lecturer introduced the students to Jewish customs, origin of surnames, told about the types of activities, which they have been doing since the founding of the city and also about the location of the oldest synagogue and the Jewish cemetery - the burial pit. They also mentioned the Genocide of Jews during the Second World War, which de-facto led to the destruction of the local Jewish community. At the lecture, an active role was noted, which was played by representatives of the Jewish community in the public life of Stanislavov. Also the lecturer mentioned, that currently, as part of the JCulture Project, a program is being implemented to restore the historical memory of the Jewish community of Stanislavov and the most famous buildings, that belonged to the Jews, memorial boards were installed, in particular, at the Jewish private gymnasium, the residential building of the founder and owner of the leather factory Yakov Margoshes, the House of Members of the Stanislavov City Council, member of the board of the Stanislav Jewish religious community Yitzhak Mayer Horowitz, which was the most famous place for walking in the city, and also at the only surviving synagogue. We hope that the result of the lectures will increase the interest of the city's youth in studying and researching the history of our city and the communities that inhabited it.
