#NEF Meet Anna: how a team of engineers from Ivano-Frankivsk created a prototype robot

2023.10.06

A robot created in Ivano-Frankivsk? Yes!

A team of engineers worked for two years to create a prototype robot to help in the household. The project is called Anna, customer is located in Denmark and the prototype robot from the first drawings to the finished building was created here in Ivano-Frankivsk.

How the team implemented it, how much time was spent on the project and what needs to be changed in Ivano-Frankivsk, so that there are more such projects here in a new story from one of the leaders of the team of engineers.

Work on the project

Bohdan, tell us how in general in Ivano-Frankivsk it became possible to create a prototype robot. How did you receive the order, and how did you do it?

After the first three months of work, we realized that we can implement such a complex project. We started to cover all our costs, we had motivation. It was October 2020. They worked on the project until June 2022. Starting from the design and ending with the layout, everything was done by our team here in Ivano-Frankivsk. The corps of the first prototype was printed on the 3D-printer.

The printing of this corps took more than a month, it is composed of many parts that are soldered together. For this print we bought a special printer. At first, they tried to print large details on it at once, but it turned out better if you print small and connect them together. Then the corps was sanded, polished, and painted. The first demo presentation was made in 2021. After that, the concept of customers changed a little.

One of the next ideas was to create a robot for remote work in large warehouses, so that a person could remotely control the robot through an exoskeleton. There was also an idea for the person who controls the robot to feel the surface that the robot touches. To do this, we have developed a special tactile glove. In the future, we had to teach the robot to do the work on its own.

On March 1, 2022, we were supposed to go to Denmark for the presentation of the second robot prototype. But the war began. After the beginning of the war, the customer decided to take the development abroad, for security reasons. Now the project is on pause on the customer's side.
