#NEF The first seminar on sustainable construction was held

2024.03.22

On March 20, Wednesday, the first open seminar on sustainable construction was held. The event was attended by representatives of construction companies, builders, architects, an energy efficiency manager, entrepreneurs and interested residents. The speakers invited were Oleksandr Tokmylenko, head of construction development at Promprylad, who presented the case of the Promprylad.Renovation revitalization, Anna Pashynska, co-founder of the MetaLab urban laboratory, and Maryana Baran, project manager of the laboratory.
Oleksandr Tokmylenko spoke about sustainable construction practices on the example of the Promprylad case, and we are sharing the main points with you:

Promprylad will become one of the few commercial buildings in Ukraine to be certified by the international LEED certification system.

  • The project team reused much of the dismantled building material on the site.
  • When decorating the facade of the plant's building, they used bricks from old dismantled Austrian houses dating from the late 19th century, which they cut themselves.
  • Concrete structures were also reused, crushed into crushed stone and glass blocks used for decoration, which also saved money.
  • Much attention was paid to design, ventilation, and heating.

The speakers from METALAB, in turn, shared their experience:

  • Co-Haty project implementation. Co-Haty is an initiative to create housing for internally displaced persons. You can read more about the project on the laboratory's website.
  • creating a laboratory that reuses materials that are not suitable for outdoor use, frame functions, but can be used as interior elements, etc.
  • conducting various workshops: a design product made of unusual material, a lighting device made of kombucha, furniture for Co-Haty.

The speakers' presentations were followed by a discussion facilitated by Volodymyr Vorobey, director of the PPV Economic Development Agency, and attended by all the seminar participants. Important issues were discussed, such as whether sustainable construction practices are relevant for Frankivsk now, what are the difficulties and opportunities in the region, what stops the process (demand, market, poor regulation of historical monuments).

The project "New Economy of Ivano-Frankivsk" is implemented jointly by the Executive Committee of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council, the innovation center Promprylad.Renovation, the urban laboratory METALAB, the economic development agency PPV Knowledge Networks, and the Teple Misto platform.
