#ParksMatter Lutsk: Green Spaces as a Resource for City Development

On August 19–21, 2026, as part of the project “Parks Matter — A New Approach to Urban Greenery Management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów (ParksMatter),” which is being implemented under the Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine 2021–2027 Program, a study tour of the cities within the program area took place.

On August 19, the study tour participants visited Lutsk. The meeting provided an opportunity not only to present the Strategic Plan for Urban Greenery Management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów but also to exchange practical experiences with colleagues from Lutsk.

During the meeting, they discussed the role of nature conservation areas in the city’s balanced development, the potential of urban natural spaces, as well as practical experience in the management, reconstruction, and development of Lutsk’s park areas.

Particular attention was paid to issues of wildlife conservation and biodiversity in the urban environment. After all, a modern park is not just a place for recreation but also an important part of the urban ecosystem.

During the practical part of the visit, participants explored Lutsk’s green spaces — Lesya Ukrainka Central Park and the “Lugo-Park” waterfront.

It is during such field trips that one can see how strategic approaches work in practice: how spaces are organized, what solutions are used for their development, and how green areas are integrated into city life.
