#ParksMatter International Cooperation for Sustainable Urban Park Management
Today, April 27, a working group meeting was held in Rzeszów as part of the project “City Parks Matter - a new approach to urban greenery management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów (ParksMatter)”, implemented within the Interreg NEXT Poland – Ukraine 2021–2027 Programme.
The event brought together representatives from Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów to collaborate on developing a modern vision for the urban greenery management, with a focus on sustainable development, ecosystem services, and the implementation of nature-based solutions.
Participants discussed in detail the key challenges and approaches outlined in the jointly developed document — the Strategic Plan for Urban greenery management — and engaged in interactive activities that allowed for a comprehensive assessment of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and potential risks. Through collaborative work, practical solutions were developed for current challenges in green space management, particularly regarding approaches to site maintenance, conservation of natural resources, and establishing effective engagement with the community.
Importantly, the discussion focused not only on strategy but also on its practical implementation — participants identified realistic steps, necessary resources, potential barriers and ways to overcome them, as well as opportunities to adapt the developed solutions to different urban conditions.
This format of cooperation facilitates the exchange of experiences between cities, the development of common approaches, and the strengthening of partnerships, all of which are essential for the long-term development of urban green spaces.
