#ParksMatter Strategic Plan for Urban Greenery Management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów

What should urban parks and green spaces look like in the future? How can we develop them so that they are comfortable, resilient to climate change, and beneficial to residents?
Answers to these questions are provided by the Strategic Plan for Urban Greenery Management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów, developed as part of the project “Parks Matter—A New Approach to Urban Greenery Management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów (ParksMatter),” which is being implemented under the Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine 2021–2027 Program.
This document develops common approaches to managing urban greenery, identifies key challenges, and provides practical recommendations for addressing them. It covers standards for the care and maintenance of greenery, modern practices in the design of greenery, and prospects for implementing nature-based solutions.
Particular attention is paid to adapting cities to climate change, preserving biodiversity, harvesting rainwater, reducing urban heat island effects, and improving the quality of public spaces, as well as their comfort, safety, and accessibility for residents.
The strategic plan is the result of collaboration between Ukrainian and Polish partners and relevant experts. The document draws on the experience of European cities and proposes solutions that can serve as the foundation for more sustainable management of greenery in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów.
Greenery is not just a decorative feature of the city. It purifies the air, lowers temperatures on hot days, retains rainwater, supports biodiversity, and creates spaces for relaxation, socializing, and rejuvenation.
