#ParksMatter From play to knowledge: small steps in the world of nature

2025.10.03

On September 29, 30, and October 2, a series of events entitled “Life in nature: from seedling to bird” were held as part of the project City Parks Matter - a new approach to urban green space management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów (ParksMatter), implemented as part of the Interreg Next Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 program.

The children began their lessons with a story about the purpose of parks in cities and their inhabitants. The young nature explorers shared their knowledge about urban green spaces and their functions, and also recalled the rules of behavior in the park. To test their knowledge of nature, the students had the opportunity to guess words based on the first letters of plant names and put together a puzzle picture.

During the group lesson, the children also drew pictures of their “dream park” and shared their ideas about what a park and its infrastructure should look like. Each drawing reflected the children's preferences and their ideas about the ideal city park.

The next interesting activity for the children was art therapy - creating a panel on a disposable paper plate using dried herbs and flowers. After completing the activity, each child had their own small, handmade symbol of the park.

At the end, the children reinforced their knowledge of urban green spaces by creating a postcard with a wish or promise for the park, and also received gifts. These activities allow children to expand their knowledge of green spaces and spend their time creatively.
