#ParksMatter Workshop №1 on Urban Green Space Management

2025.06.17

On 16 June, the first workshop on urban green space management was held in Ivano-Frankivsk, organised as part of the project "City Parks Matter - A new approach to urban greenery management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów (ParksMatter)", implemented within the framework of the Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine Programme 2021-2027.

The main audience was students of higher education institutions – young people who are already shaping new approaches to sustainable development, ecological thinking and urban planning.

The meeting began with welcoming remarks from Ihor Popadiuk, Director of the Department of Investment Policy, Projects, International Relations, Tourism and City Promotion, and Ruslana Vasyliuk, Director of the Municipal Enterprise "Centre for City Development and Recreation".

Participants were introduced to the project idea and its objectives, presented by Chrystyna Melnyk. The ParksMatter project aims to develop new approaches to the planning, maintenance and use of urban parks, making them modern, functional and friendly to people and nature.

The lecture-discussion ‘Eco-city: utopia or professionally planned future’ by Myroslava Mylenka inspired participants to look at green spaces as a key tool for creating a comfortable urban environment.

In an interactive Kahoot! session with Nadiia Riznychuk, participants discussed the challenges facing the city's ecosystem and ideas for park development.

The most creative part was the LegoSeriousPlay format, a method that allowed participants to develop practical recommendations for the development of green areas in a visual and playful way.

The meeting resulted not only in new knowledge, but also in real ideas that will be integrated into future project activities. The first workshop confirmed that city parks are not just a place for walks, but spaces for co-creation, ecological thinking, microclimatic stability and social unity.
