#ParksMatter Workshop No. 2: Education for a green future for cities
On 17 June, the second workshop on urban green space management was held in Ivano-Frankivsk as part of the project "City Parks Matter - A new approach to urban greenery management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów (ParksMatter)" supported by the Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 programme.
The target audience of the event was representatives of the education sector – teachers and lecturers who play a key role in shaping the environmental awareness of future generations.
Lidiia Cherevko, Head of the Project Management Office, and Tetiana Zbyrak, Regional Representative of the Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 programme, delivered welcoming speeches.
The project was presented by Chrystyna Melnyk, who introduced the participants to the key goals of ParksMatter, which is to develop a modern approach to planning, maintaining and integrating urban parks into community life.
In the format of the environmental game-discussion ‘Students Lab: City of Sustainable Future’, Nadiia Riznychuk, an expert dendrologist, engaged the participants in creative modelling of a sustainable urban space where nature and humans coexist in harmony.
The workshop was followed by a presentation of the best environmental and educational practices by ecologist Myroslava Mylenka, which can be integrated into curricula or extracurricular activities.
The workshop ended with a joint summing up of the results and outlining the next steps in cooperation with educational institutions to form an environmentally responsible society.
ParksMatter confirms that parks are not only green space, but also an open platform for learning, cooperation and sustainable development of our cities.
