#ParksMatter Green infrastructure to combat climate change

2025.04.23

As part of the project ‘City Parks Matter - a new approach to urban greenery management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów (ParksMatter)’, we share information about the value of urban green infrastructure.

Green spaces in parks help mitigate the effects of climate change. They act as a natural filter that absorbs dust, gases and toxic substances and reduces the greenhouse effect.

For example, Paris implemented an urban forest programme to help reduce summer heat and reduce the risk of flooding by creating natural water-absorbing areas. In Munich, city parks reduce the average temperature by 2-4°C in the hottest months, which significantly affects the comfort of residents.

The use of modern approaches to landscaping will help the city become more climate-resilient, reduce the risk of overheating in summer and improve the water balance.

The project “City Parks Matter - a new approach to urban greenery management in Ivano-Frankivsk and Rzeszów” is implemented under the Interreg Next Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 Programme.
